We Loved Couples Therapy So Much We Became Therapists! with Margot and Jorge Begun

Margot and Jorge met in the summer of 2014. They went to a friend’s wedding and the groom and bride introduced them to each other. They started dating right after the wedding. Jorge is originally from Mexico City and he was living there at that time. He was on vacation when he met Margot. Margot lived in San Diego. They needed to figure out a way to make the relationship work. In the beginning, they dated for eight months long distance. They both realized that they had to make a choice, either to move or to continue long distance. Jorge is older than Margot and was at a period in his life when he was able to move. He decided to start a master's and move to San Diego in 2015. Jorge got a hernia surgery that went wrong and had to stay on bed rest. Margie and her family helped him to get better.

Margot was still studying in Anaheim and they were able to see each other on the weekends again. At least they were closer now to the same state and country. Jorge decided to go back to work and went to live in Tijuana. That was another setback for them because now they had to deal with immigration issues and the distance again. Distance has been a constant in their lives by that point. It did not make them weaker, it made them stronger. Each time it faced them to fight harder to be together.

Margie finished her undergrad and came back to live in San Diego with her parents. They were happy that she was closer now. Jorge lived a year in Tijuana, and It wasn’t until he found a job in San Diego and was able to get a work visa that they were finally in the same city together. At this point, they decided to move in together. This felt amazing. All the hard work was rewarded. They could finally be together after all they were put through. Margot started her master's and Jorge was working. The first night they had dinner on their first apartment together in a card box board sitting down on the floor. That moment was so special and so meaningful for them. They have won one of the battles that we were always dealing with. The distance can be very difficult to cope with, but always worth it.

Margot and Jorge have been together for 8 years, married for 3.
