Dana McNeil on How To Know If You’re Falling Out of Love – As Seen In – MindBodyGreen

Recognizing the signs of falling out of love can be difficult but crucial. In an article by MindBodyGreen, Dr. Dana McNeil, PsyD, and a licensed marriage and family therapist, shares valuable insights into what these signs look like and how to address them.

One of the first indicators, she explains, is when you start pulling away:

“You’re creating space emotionally, physically, or mentally because you’re uncomfortable in the relationship,”

says McNeil.

Feeling emotionally overwhelmed in your partner’s presence is another sign, which McNeil calls “flooding”:

“You may be harboring unresolved feelings of resentment, frustration, or a lack of trust,” she notes.

McNeil also highlights the difference between a rut and falling out of love:

“A rut might mean you’re bored or there’s a lack of excitement… Falling out of love involves withdrawing, feeling a change of heart, and not wanting to invest in the relationship anymore.”

If these signs resonate, McNeil encourages seeking support:

“Couples therapy can be a safe space to explore these feelings and work on reconnection.”
